Amidst all the hype going on regarding data analytics in the
last few years, it is very important to understand and know that
it is not a foreign concept to us , it is just the evolution ,
the rate at which the changes in the data analytics processes
and technique has taken place has surprised many.In ancient
times, humans used basic methods like tally marks and simple
charts to record and analyze data. These methods were limited in
scope and accuracy.
The 17th and 18th centuries saw the development of statistical
methods by pioneers like John Graunt, William Sealy Gosset, and
Karl Pearson. These methods laid the foundation for modern
statistical analysis. Then we saw the introduction of computers
which revolutionized Data analysis because that was the first
time it allowed large data sets to be analyzed . It not only
eliminated human errors but also the accuracy improved
exponentially.
Various fields have witnessed immense benefit from this very
evolution and that also includes “politics”. Data analysis plays
with numbers which directly compliments the quantitative nature
of Politics.Data analytics has had a significant impact on
politics in recent years, transforming how political campaigns
are conducted, how elections are analyzed, and how policymakers
make decisions. Data analytics allows political campaigns to
target specific voter segments with tailored messages and
outreach efforts. By analyzing demographic, behavioral, and
social data, campaigns can identify potential supporters and
focus their resources more effectively.
It enables the use of predictive modeling to forecast election
outcomes. By analyzing polling data, demographic trends, and
other factors, analysts can make informed predictions about the
results of elections. We have reached a phase where opinion
polls are more or less equivalent to election result declaration
,with better techniques less variation is seen between the two
and the parties are already mentally prepared as they are more
or less sure of what’s going to be the outcome already.
However the most important part of Politics is “policy” ,
Data analytics plays a crucial role in policy development by
providing policymakers with evidence-based insights to guide
decision-making. One key use of data analytics is in identifying
and understanding social, economic, and environmental issues. By
analyzing data from various sources, such as surveys,
administrative records, and social media, policymakers can gain
a deeper understanding of the problems facing society and
prioritize which issues to address.
Data analytics also helps policymakers assess the impact of
existing policies and predict the outcomes of proposed policies.
By analyzing historical data and trends, policymakers can
evaluate the effectiveness of current policies and make informed
decisions about which new policies are likely to be most
effective. This allows policymakers to make more informed
decisions that are based on evidence rather than
ideology.Additionally, data analytics is used to monitor the
implementation of policies and evaluate their impact over time.
This helps policymakers ensure that policies are achieving their
intended outcomes and make adjustments if necessary. Overall,
data analytics is a powerful tool in policy development, helping
policymakers make more informed decisions, evaluate the
effectiveness of policies, and engage with stakeholders.
We can conclude it on a note that dynamics of the environment
are ever changing be it whatever field or area, we as human
beings have to make ourselves able and willing enough to adapt
to the only constant known as “CHANGE’’, adaptation to change
was the key to success in the history , it is the key in the
present and will remain the key in the future.
